Over the past two weeks, I have been able to spend some time behind the counter working at the book store! It has made me realize what a wonderful downtown we truly have here in Alexandria. It has been so fun getting to know our regular customers and what you like to read along with all of our tourists. To hear where everyone is from and what brought them into the store has brought me great pleasure. I thank you all for your support.
This coming fall we have something very exciting happening for our store. We are launching our very first Cherry Street Books book fairs to our local schools! We are so excited that Voyager Elementary and St. Marys Schools are allowing us the opportunity to sell books to their children as a school fundraiser. We can’t thank them enough for giving us this opportunity.
Here is how I am asking to get your support once again. We are going to be offering a Book Fairy Project to both schools. There are many times when families don’t have the funds, or possibly mom or dad just simply forgot to send money to school that day with their child. We, here at the bookstore, firmly believe that starting children reading at a young age creates readers for life! We want to make sure every child has the chance to get a new book at the fair. The child’s teacher will have a limited number of Book Fairy passes to hand out. It will simply say, “You have been spotted by the Book Fairy doing something wonderful today! Please pick out one book from our book fair.”
